When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

Let the mini-dump begin. I've been tinkering with several Avatar illustrations lately, in conjuncture with a fun little fan writing project I'm working on with a good friend. Here's the first of at least four I plan to post this weekend.
Suki!! It's amazing how strong and confident and yet utterly adorable she always manages to be. Jenny Kwan's talented voice has a lot to do with it, I think. By far one of the most interesting supporting characters in the show. And it's looking like she'll be joining the regular cast for the finale this July. I decided to give up on my usual technique of blending the edges of my shadows into a smooth gradiant and shoot for a more purely animation cell painting look, and I really, really like the results. Compared to my two previous Avatar images (Azula 1 and Azula 2), I think it's a great improvement. I'm also very pleased with the likeness. -------------------------------------------- Suki and Avatar: The Last Airbender are the property of Nickelodeon and those two lucky bastards that pitched the idea. They're not mine and I'm not saying they're mine so back off, shogun. Background lifted from a screenshot from the episode "Warriors of Kyoshi," obtained from Avatar Spirit, and liberally modified and cleaned up in Photoshop by me. |
